A young man is sitting in Dr. George Walker’s office talking about his ability. When he touches something, he can electrocute it, he said he did this with the next door neighbour’s cat. Dr. Walker looks like he does not believe him; the young man called Scott offers to shake his hand to prove him wrong, but Dr. Walker refuses to shake his hand.
Scott is walking down towards his car, there is someone behind him. Then you see that Scott is being stabbed, he is killed.
The Secret: Dean is telling Sam the secret that John whispered into his ear before he died. John told Dean to protect Sam and make sure he’s alright, that he had to save Sam and that if he couldn’t, Dean might have to kill him. Sam becomes distraught, wanting to know what the hell that’s supposed to mean. Thoughts about whether he’s going to turn evil and what the demon’s plans are for Sam start to fill his head.
Dean understands that Sam’s upset with him and he apologizes for not telling him sooner. But he begs Sam to give him time and that they should lay low until they can plot out their next move.
Sam is seen walking out of their room and steals the car parked next to the Impala. He drives to a building at 5637 Monroe Street. He searches the outside of the building, to make sure all is clear. He sneaks around to the backdoor; picks open the locks and walks in very carefully. A few seconds after entering the building he sets off a tripwire, blowing him to pieces.
Blood spews onto the screen, leaving only a trace of his shoe on the floor.
Static fills the screen as we flashback to present day. Ava wakes up sweating and out of breath only to discover she had another nightmare.
Sam walks into the roadhouse. Ellen tells Sam that Dean has been calling, asking if he was there. Ellen asks what's going on between the two of them.
Avoiding the question, Sam asks how Jo is doing. Ellen says she doesn’t really know because after the job she did with Sam and Dean, she wanted to continue hunting. Ellen said not under her roof and Jo walked out. She hasn’t seen her in weeks, but Jo still sends a postcard now and then. Ellen tells Sam that it’s not their fault and that she forgave John a long time ago for what happened to her husband Bill.
Sam asks Ash to do a nationwide search for people like him with psychic abilities whose mom’s died in nursery fires. Ash’s database picks up four names including Sam: Max Miller, Andy Gallagher, and Scott Carey. When Sam inquires about an address on Scott, Ash responds with a cemetery in Lafayette, Indiana. Scott died about a month ago, stabbed in a parking lot; cops have no suspects in custody. As Sam heads out, Ellen says that she’s got to call Dean and let him know where Sam is. Sam pleads with her not to breathe a word to Dean, telling her that he means well, but that he’s trying to find answers about who he is, and that Dean can’t protect him from this.
Sam goes to see Scott’s father; he tells him he's a friend of Scott’s from high school. Scott’s father says that Scott had changed a lot after high school. It started with headaches and nightmares. Then he became very paranoid and depressed. He said they tried to get him help, but Scott refused. He locked himself in his room for days. While searching Scott’s room, Sam finds three bottles of medication on his dresser and snags one of them. In the closet behind his clothes, he finds a collage of yellow eyes taped to the wall, leading Sam to believe that Scott was definitely connected with the demon.
As Sam walks back to his room, he notices someone sneaking up behind him. He turns around and grabs the girl up against the wall, demanding to know who she is. She responds by saying, “Please, you’re in danger."
Ava introduces herself she tells Sam even though it seems crazy she is not! She tells Sam that she had a dream about him and he died. Sam then figures that she must be one of the few that's like him! He tells Ava about the power he as got, Ava seems in denial and tells him she is due to get married. She's about to leave and Sam says that if you go now you may never find out the truth.
Ava is talking with Dr Walker she is trying to distract him from Sam who is trying to steal Scott’s file. The plan works.
Sam and Ava listen to the recording of Scott’s visit with Walker. In the recording Scott tells Dr. Walker that the yellow-eyed demon has plans for him, that there’s a war coming. People like him are going to be the soldiers, that everything’s about to change.
Dean cruises by the motel and sees Sam and is thankful to God that he’s ok.
Looking from a distance, he sees Ava and starts chuckling in his throat, “Sam, you sly dog”. Then all of a sudden, shots are fired though the windows, Sam and Ava duck behind the table, but the shots are still being fired, by Gordon stationed on the roof of the building across the street with a sniper. Dean spots him and lays a few rounds of punches at him. But Gordon manages to get back in the game by knocking him out with the back of the sniper rifle.
Sam and Ava walk up to the roof of the building where Gordon was firing the shots. Sam finds 233 calibre rounds. Ava is now officially freaked out and Sam tries to assure her that he’s not crazy, that he just watches a lot of T.J. Hooker. Sam calls Dean, who is tied up with Gordon holding a gun at him. Dean tells Sam to meet him at 5637 Monroe St. Sam knows Dean’s in trouble because he used the term “funky town” which is their code word of letting each other know when they’ve got a gun pointed at them. Sam convinces Ava to go back home because he wants her out of harms way. At the building Gordon tells Dean that as much as he wants to get revenge on the two of them, he’s a hunter, not a killer, and that Sam is fair game.
Dean is tied up and Gordon is telling him all about the War, He says that Sam is one of the Soldiers for Hells side and he has to be stopped. Dean is trying to convince Gordon none of this is true. But Gordon just says to Dean that Sam must be stopped and he has planted two tripwires, for when Sam tries to rescue Dean!
Sam searches the outside of the building and heads around to the backdoor, walking right into Ava’s vision. With Dean gagged and still tied to the chair, Sam picks open the lock on the backdoor and being extremely cautious, walks in slowly. The first tripwire sets off an explosion, breaking down part of the wall, pieces of wood flying in all directions. Dean screams under his breath, with tears forcefully coming out of his eyes. A few seconds later, the second one goes off. Gordon takes his sniper and peeks into the other room, to make sure that Sam is destroyed. He sees Sam’s shoe on the ground, assuming he’s dead. Little does he know, Sam is right behind him with a gun of his own, demanding Gordon to drop his weapon. Gordon slowly lays the sniper on the ground, but unexpectedly turns around and throws Sam a punch. However Sam manages to get Gordon back down to the ground holding the sniper at his head. Gordon yells at out, “Do it, show your brother evil killer you really are. You’re no better than the filthy things you hunt.” However, Sam doesn’t have the will power to pull the trigger and instead bangs him once more in the head with the back of the sniper. Sam quickly unties Dean, who is immediately ready to waste Gordon. However, Sam stops him saying Gordon’s been taken care of.
Sam and Dean are walking back to the Impala, when suddenly Gordon walks out with two guns firing shots. Sam and Dean run as fast as they can. Then they hide behind a patch of tall grass. Suddenly five squad cars surround him, police ordering him to drop his weapons. Gordon’s taken care of at least for a good three or four years, providing that he doesn’t escape.
Dean gives Ellen a call, angry that she told Gordon about Sam’s visions. Ellen denies telling anyone about Sam. Dean is convinced that she must’ve told someone because Gordon said he had roadhouse connections. She says that she is not disloyal and that she didn’t breathe a word of this to anyone, but that the roadhouse is full of other hunters, each with their own patterns and connections. Gordon could’ve gotten this information from anyone.
Sam is trying to get hold of Ava but he can't so he is worried. Sam and Dean go to her apartment to see if she is ok. When they get there they find that her fiancé has been brutally murdered; there is blood everywhere. The window is open and Dean spots traces of sulohur; the Demon has paid a visit. Sam then finds Ava's engagement ring and realises she must have been there too....
