The date that Dean travels back to is 30th April 1973. It can be assumed that the episode takes place over a couple of days, making Mary's deal occur on the 2nd May - exactly 10 years before Sam will be born.
The song used in this episode (Ramblin' Man by The Allman Brothers) was also used in the Pilot episode of the show.
We find out Dean and Sam were named after their maternal grandparents, Samuel and na (although thanks to the time travel concept, Dean may be named after himself).
We also discover that Mary was a hunter long before she married John - a trade she inherited from her Dad.
The Yellow Eyed Demon is discovered for the first time.
