An attractive old house on the edge of dalkeith,just outside edinburgh,was the scene of some very sinister events early in the 20th century.On 3rd february 1911,a large dinner party was held,after
which several people fell dangerously ill and two lost their lives.A post-mortem examination showed that they were poisoned.The two dead men were named as charles hutchinson and alec clapperton.The poisoner
turned out to be john,the son of charles hutchinson.He fled to the channel islands after the incident and when finally cornered by the police there,he ended his own life by taking prussic acid.
A strange presence,thought to be the ghost of charles hutchinson,remains very much in evidence in the house nowadays,in the room where the dinner party took place.The family who live there
today testify to a strange atmopshere in the room and the family dogs are reluctant to enter it. |
